Dilys Mary Lloyd

I became a CEDR  Accredited Mediator in March 2007 and after 20 years as a Partner and employment law specialist at a major law firm, now practice as a mediator.

I have in depth understanding of the tensions generated by disputes which arise from individuals working together, whether this is in a typical employment setting,  at senior management level,  between business partners, elected officials, or in the boardroom.

As a result of my professional background I am aware of the likely areas of conflict, the options for resolution and the benefits of such matters being resolved at an early stage.

I have undertaken a variety of mediations, both in relation to employment and commercial disputes including those arising where;

  • tensions within a workplace team have created a difficult working environment and adversely affected performance;

  • there has been a breakdown in trust and confidence between an education sector employer and an employee who alleged bullying and harassment by work colleagues;

  • an employer faced a second race discrimination tribunal claim from the same employee and the parties needed to establish whether the employment relation could continue;

  • an employee had raised multiple grievances and wanted to explore options other than the issue of tribunal proceedings;

  • allegations of racism had been made by an employee in a large transport organisation against a number of managers;

  • tensions had arisen between work colleagues in the health sector when one team member was due to return to work from sickness absence after raising grievances against the others;

  • cross complaints were made between a Council Leader and a Deputy Chief Excutive alleging bullying, dishonesty and deception;

  • an employment dispute arose involving constructive dismissal and sex discrimination allegations by an employee living on her employer’s premises;

  • a multi party claim was made alleging unfair dismissal and race discrimination by senior staff employed at a private educational establishment;

  • commercial and consumer disputes ranging from assisting at a mediation of a multi million pound dispute over a corporate sale / purchase transaction through to undertaking mediations relating to County Court disputes.

In the context of mediation I have been described as “ patient, constructive and able to build rapport quickly” and being able to “ motivate the parties to remain positive and believe resolution is a possible and increasingly likely outcome.”

A party to a dispute which I recently mediated said that my ” professionalism, good humour and understanding made a very difficult day bearable and hopefully has helped us reach a resolution which will enable all concerned to move forwards.”

In another recent case, the lawyer representing the employee at mediation said that my “approach of listening carefully to my client (and showing that you were doing so) was important in enabling him to feel that his opinion was being taken into account and that his employer was finally having to face up to my client’s view of events……….you were in control throughout the day and were actively moving the mediation forward”

and on an earlier occasion another party has said that he was “ delighted to recommend Dilys Lloyd as a mediator, based on my direct experience with her in a mediation process within the Council that I lead”
